Steel That Stands Up To The Port

Port Adelaide is South Australia's freight front door. Between Outer Harbor's container terminal, the bulk berths, the Gillman industrial land and the transport yards feeding them, it is a precinct that runs hard on heavy steel - and punishes anything built light.

Salt air, constant loading cycles and 24-hour operations mean equipment down here wears differently to equipment working inland. Coatings matter. Weld preparation matters. Getting a repair done properly the first time matters most of all, because a second failure on a wharf costs more than the original job ever did.

We are ten minutes east along Grand Junction Road, which puts us close enough to assess quickly and turn work around fast. Structural repairs, handling frames, walkways, guarding, tipper and bin bodies, and mixer drums for the concrete work feeding the Port's developments - we cover the lot.

Meet the Team
Behind Kingpin Engineering

At Kingpin Engineering, we’re more than just fabricators - we’re a team dedicated to setting the standard for what an engineering workshop should be. Founded by our director, the business was built on three non-negotiables: precision engineering, honest workmanship, and genuine customer care.

Meet Our Founder & Director

Kingpin Engineering started with a simple but powerful vision: to be the one workshop a customer could trust with everything - from a precision-engineered agitator drum to the one-off repairs most shops turn away. With years of hands-on experience, our founder saw firsthand how customers were bounced from supplier to supplier and let down by low standards - and knew there had to be a better way.

With that, the new standard for heavy fabrication and concrete engineering was born.

Built For Salt Air & Shift Work

Port work does not stop for a repair. We plan Port Adelaide jobs around your operating windows, spec coatings for coastal exposure, and back the work with material certificates and welding procedure documentation where the job calls for it.

With engineering experience built over years on the workshop floor, every job at Kingpin starts with a clear plan - so you know the scope, the spec and the timeframe before we cut a single piece of steel.

That means we deliver the utmost care on every job we take on, from a 16m³ agitator drum to a one-off repair, without ever sacrificing attention to detail.

Backed by Certification: We wear our quality with confidence. You’re trusting us with serious equipment, so the least we can do is back it - with material certificates, welding procedure documentation and Australian-Standard engineering on every build that calls for it.

One Workshop, Every Job: The big concrete OEMs won’t touch your skip bin. The bin factories won’t roll a spiral blade. We do both - plus the cutting, bending, welding and mending others turn away - under one roof, on one invoice.

Common Port Adelaide Questions

For assessments and smaller repairs, yes - we can get to the Port in about ten minutes. Larger rebuilds are better done at the Wingfield workshop where we have the plant, the jigs and the blasting and painting set up.

We do it as standard for Port Adelaide work. Blast back to bare metal, epoxy primer and a topcoat system chosen for the exposure. Salt air will find any shortcut in surface prep, so we do not take any.

Yes. Our CNC plasma table and press brake handle the thick plate a lot of smaller shops turn away, which is most of what wharf and bulk handling repairs need.

We're a heavy fabrication and engineering workshop covering four main areas: concrete mixers and agitators, skip bins and waste bodies, CNC plasma cutting and bending, and custom fabrication and welding. Most workshops only do one of these - we do all of them under one roof, from precision-engineered agitator drums right down to one-off repairs.

We design and manufacture agitator drums from 6m³ to 16m³, built from high-tensile wear-resistant steel. Every drum is 3D CAD designed, dynamic-balance tested and water-capacity tested before it leaves our workshop. Need a size or spec not listed? We engineer to your requirement.

Both. We re-barrel and recondition worn drums, repair cracks, replace blades, re-balance and re-coat - bringing a tired agitator back to working life at a fraction of replacement cost. We also rebuild agitator drive motors and repair hydraulic motors and pumps (PMP, Rexroth and Eaton). Send us your drum or your truck and we'll tell you what's worth saving.

Yes. We build custom skip bins - Marrel, hook-lift, craneable and special-purpose - sized to match your truck and your job. Already have bins in your fleet? Send us a photo or a drawing and we'll build to match.

We do. Split floors, cracked walls, bent frames and general wear - we repair and reinforce bins rather than replace them, and get them back into service fast. Unlike the big bin importers, you can bring us a single bin without waiting on a container load or a minimum order.

Absolutely. Send us a CAD file, an engineering drawing, or even a sketch, and we'll cut and bend it on our CNC plasma cutter and press brake - including the big, thick steel smaller shops can't handle. No drawing? Our 3D CAD capability means we can design it, prove it on screen, then build it.

Yes - both steel and aluminium. Toolboxes, steps, brackets, tanks, frames and trade parts, including the aluminium work a lot of shops won't take on. Done properly and built to last.

Always. No job is too small to ask about and none too custom to quote. A snapped bracket, a bent chassis, a part that needs cutting, bending and welding into something new - walk in, describe the problem, and we'll tell you straight whether we can fix it, build it or improve it.

Yes. For OEM and export work we provide Australian-Standard design support, engineering and manufacturing drawings, material certificates, welding procedure documentation, and CKD/SKD container kits for local assembly.

The workshop is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12:30pm, closed Sunday. We also run a 24/7 emergency callout for breakdowns - if something goes down outside hours, call (08) 7081 3155.

Yes. Our workshop is at 438-440 Hanson Rd, Wingfield SA 5013, and Port Adelaide is one of the areas we cover regularly - supporting concrete operators, waste and recycling companies, transport fleets, mining and civil contractors and trade businesses. Give us a call on (08) 7081 3155.

Send us the details of your job - drawings or photos help - through our quote form or give us a call on (08) 7081 3155. The more detail you give, the faster and more accurate the quote.
